    wind

So this weekend was marked by a mass tumbleweed migration.

For those of you who have not encountered this phenomenom, it is a real pain in the butt, especially if you are driving. The wind picks up to the point where you have to hold the wheel of the vehicle at an angle in order to keep the car straight, then you get to dodge the big tumbleweeds. The little ones aren't so bad, but a huge stick monster stuck to your car is just an annoyance.

Other than that, not much happened this weekend. I twisted my ankle at some point, not sure how or when, but it doesn't matter. It'll get better, so I'm not worried about it.

For those of you followig the story or those just starting it a more readable copy can be found at

It might not have the most recent addition, but will definitely be better than searching the archives for the beginning or particular sections.

Ok, here is the next part:

    [Untitled]
    8

Malchevio hated traveling between planes of reality. The energy expenditure was more than he was comfortable with. It was no wonder that Julius had chosen to stay once he found her.

He entered the cave where his charge was staying. He hated this place, the good vibes were too strong here, but it was the least likely place for their enemies to look for him.

Him. Evil to the core, Malchevio’s charge killed for fun. He didn’t care who, when or anything else. Malchevio hated even being near him, but he had to make sure that he was ready when the time came.

Going further into the cave he started to call out. “Jack.”

“What is it?” came a voice from the depths.

    “I have seen her.”

    “How does she look?”

“Good. She will put up a good fight.”

Jack smiled. The expression was one that could cause nightmares for years. “Good. I shall enjoy killing her. I shall make sure that she knows every pain that I can inflict. Then I’ll let her live long enough to feel the full effect. She shall wish that she was never born before she dies.”

“Don’t overestimate you own powers, and don’t underestimate hers. She is easily as powerful if not more so than you. The only thing working with you right now is time. The vampire has barely started her training, and in my opinion he doesn’t have enough time to bring her to full strength.”

The hand was at Malchevio’s neck before he even realized that Jack had moved. “You dare to question my abilities?”

Malchevio struggled to breath. “No,” he gasped. “I question nothing, I only remind you of what you already know.”

Jack released him. Malchevio fell to the floor, gasping for air. “You know her raw power, you have known for years what you would face. What we don’t know is how much of it Julius can bring to the surface in the next few weeks. You should be preparing as well, not sitting here grumbling about the wait.”

“Foolish old man. I am as ready as I’ll ever be. The only thing keeping me here is the rules set by those much more powerful than me.”

“Yes, you know better than to break those rules.”

“I know what I have been promised. If I follow the rules, and defeat her, I have been promised what I could only dream of.”

“I don’t want to know your dreams.”

“Then you better hope that you die before she does.”

“I wish no such thing. Just remember those who help you.”

“Be gone old man. You have made me tired, and I wish to rest now.”

    “As you wish.”

Malchevio breathed a sigh of relief as he exited the cave. The sooner this assignment was over the better.

Jack was furious. How dare that old man question his abilities? How dare he even suggest that there was the possibility that he could lose?

Jack wished that he could kill the old man, but he still needed him.

Jack picked up a rock. He held it in his hand for a moment and then threw it at one of the cave’s walls. It struck and froze a section of the wall, and then it exploded in a ball of fire.

He noticed a scuttling along the wall that the rock had hit. A spider had been stupid enough to cross his path. He watched it for a moment. It was venomous, even better.

He pounced on the spider. It didn’t even know what had happened before he swallowed it whole. It bit and scratched all the way down. Jack relished the feeling.

Still angry with Malchevio, he continued throwing rocks at the cave wall.

He wished that he were able to initiate the battle immediately. He hated waiting, holed up in a cave like this was absolute misery. He wanted o be out raising havoc and causing misery.

Unfortunately, being outside would reveal that he had escaped his former imprisonment. He had left a decoy, so that he at least could not be traced. The escape had been dangerous, even for him.

Maybe going outside wouldn’t be so bad, except forces from both good and evil were looking for him.

He laughed inside. He was too evil for even his own side to allow being free. His former captor was on the same side as him, but not nearly as powerful, or devious. He figured that his former captor knew that he was gone, but was unable to do anything about it.

Deciding that nothing else could be done right then Jack retreated to the rear of the cave. He decided that it was time to make a list of his enemies. He would make the list and then decide how to kill each one.

Grinning with pleasure, he faded into the darkness.
